First Halloween

children's laughter

a boy and girl carve out

 a jack-o-lantern

deep orange pumpkin gutted

the scent of roasted brown seeds

gasps - -

the small lantern's grin and eyes are lit

by flickering candle light

The eerie light's shadows danced

A coyote howled in tune

an owl hoots - -

the moon emerges from clouds

as bats flap across the sky

Full moon reveals surprises

Ghosts' wispy gown races fast

shrieks and giggles - -

little fingers drop candy and point

towards the sky

A tiny night rider floats

Little eyelids close softly

Hi Jack! Thanks for dropping by! That last two lines made me do a double take and made me think there was an actual ghost floating by-- could it be Casper? Very fun Halloween poem, with a lot of the familiar elements blended here-- great collab from you and Sara! I enjoyed reading this and I hope all is well with you, dear jack (o'lantern)-- forgive me, I can't resist!!

A top7 rating for this awesome write Jack & Sara!! Rengay form is new to me, but the content is no surprise, coming from two talented writers. Love the innocent pleasures of a young child enjoying its first Halloween...especially the gasps of excitement....and finally the contented falling off to sleep. Well done. // paul
