Fireplace After

Dying so slowly, burn the piled embers
Where I remember fire before your ghost
Touched the cold burial within my hearth.

Night snow on mantle, in belly; the hearth
Must fall to light still dark as the embers
Could melt once again my body; your ghost

Is dying within me when sheds your ghost
On skin; cold yet comes of the swollen hearth,
The dying's way with me in the embers,

The embers catch your ghost's gaze in the hearth.

The second stanza is deeply meticulously thought out. A romantic tragedy perhaps dear poetess. Hoping all's Okay? Sending autumn blessings🦋

This is a great Tritina. It smells of death. Words like embers, ghost etc are wisely used. All the best dear Paige.

as the embers Could melt once again my body… the swollen hearth…last line. Seems to tell a tragic tale. You did well, Paige. ✍️

Oh, boy, something dark is harkening a spark to rivet like a cricket who's been nicked by a spicket. (the sentence proves I've probably been on soup overly long.) OK, serious hat is on my head. The flavor of this is ashy splendor, love the ghosts, embers, burial and the ghosts gaze really spooked me. This reminds me of one I wrote called, EMBERS AND SNOWFLAKES, you'd get into it, it's dtd Jan 2018, I'm pretty sure. The feel and imagery in this are both titallating. CayCay

the contrast of fire and ice made for a beautiful, almost mystical poem. Faving.

Paige, I think this is one of your best! There is always a mystical sense about your poems - a sense of life and the afterlife! It's pensive quality draws me into the words. Best wishes for the contest. Blessings of autumn joy!

Very evocative, Paige. The combination of fire and snow is striking ~ the ghost refrain gives poem an eerie quality just right for what title seeks to convey. I like how you’ve woven belly, body & skin into poem which increases the groundedness of felt emotion. Well done. I enjoyed this read today. Personal blessings. 🕊️
