Fire But Not Yet
“Fire when you see the white of their eyes.”
He hears the captain yell.
“We’re running out of ammo
And every shot must tell.”
The enemy is coming close
As if they have no fear.
His gun is at the ready,
He must wait till they come near.
A shot rings out. It isn’t his.
They come in for the kill.
He hasn’t seen their white of eye.
And now he never will!
