Fine Spirits

Words can be the flame
   that burn through your emotions
your heart may be in pain
as the words become more inurbane

People might never be the same
   after some traumatic event
       their behaviour may become capricious
and they may drown their sorrows in the bottle

 Their malignant nature will alienate
     many of their friends
          They'll gravitate towards "fine spirits",
  their actions will often offend

 Everyone will become their scapegoat
the fault will never be theirs -
..Perhaps a transitory period of sobriety
    can dissipate our fears
and the truth will become perspicuous
for it is not meant to flatter
Maybe then, they'll see the light.
                   ~---~

Poetry can heal what alcohol and drugs never could. I am thankful that I have become addicted to writing... A wise message comes through in these expressive lines. Great work, Joseph!

Joseph, kudos for making a wonderful poem from the challenging words. They didn't speak to me and I just couldn't manage to write one. 7 ; )

So true, Joseph. Happiness has never never found inside a bottle. A great write for sobriety!

You hit the problem on the head, Joseph, (sometimes you have to hit them or ourselves on the head) and laid out so succinctly. Well done.
