Finding Myself

Lost,
I nervously reach beyond my fear,
Seeking a hidden remedy
For an unseen cancer

Blind,
I madly search for
Joy’s illusive shape
To somehow make me whole

Desperate,
I dare to scratch the surface,
My weathered body barely sensing
A warm, beating comfort

Intrigued,
I anxiously delve deeper
Despite the constant cry
Of my warning conscience

Determined,
My sturdy will digs further,
Sifting through mounds of despair,
As my strength slowly dissipates

Tired,
My hands now ache with experience
As I gaze upon my meager prize –
A withered heart, left unused.
