Feel the Love Tonight

She whispers, “Can you feel the love tonight?” “Yes, we all fall in love sometimes”, I said. “It looks like someone saved my life tonight, Don’t let the sun go down on me” I pled. “Yes, we all fall in love sometimes”, I said. “My lady, what’s tomorrow? Are we friends? Don’t let the sun go down on me”, I pled. Who knew that harmony so quickly ends. “My lady, what’s tomorrow? Are we friends? Alas, this tiny dancer danced away. Who knew that harmony so quickly ends? My candle in the wind went cold that day. Alas, this tiny dancer danced away. Now skyline pigeon’s a high flying bird. My candle in the wind went cold that day For sorry seems to be the hardest word. Now skyline pigeon’s a high flying bird, “I think I'm going to kill myself”, I cry. For sorry seems to be the hardest word - My little Jeannie’s with some other guy “I think I'm going to kill myself”, I cry, Her blue eyes were the hardest thing to lose. My little Jeannie’s with some other guy, So I guess that’s why they call it the blues. Her blue eyes were the hardest thing to lose Sing me them blues, ‘cos sad songs say so much. So I guess that’s why they call it the blues - I miss her love song and I miss her touch. Sing me them blues, ‘cos sad songs say so much Some circle of life mysteries bestowed I miss her love song and I miss her touch She hears me sigh, “Goodbye, yellow brick road” Some circle of life mysteries bestowed - It looks like someone saved my life tonight: She hears me sigh, “Goodbye, yellow brick road” She whispers, “Can you feel the love tonight?” 29 May 2016 John Watt A pantoum using song titles. Back to complete the merry-go-round here (had to dig up the past myself .. hahaha). Interesting back and forth dialogue ... I found myself humming to so many different tunes nearly every other line (though some I've never heard before). You picked a tricky artist because of the LENGTH of many of these titles - some of them entire lines long!

started with a list of around 35 song titles (thankfully, Elton has a LOT of songs!) and then started eliminating those that didn't fit the meter or storyline. It was a fun exercise! Some of the meter got stretched a little bit...

Yet another round of applause for you, dear poet! You've woven so many song titles into your bittersweet full-circle poem of love, lost love and the saving grace of love. Composed with the seamless finesse of a master, John. I bestow upon you, the title of Pantoum King, and along with that is a bouquet of smiles from me to you! :)) I enjoyed the 'Elton John style' journey with you, my wonderful friend.. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

I let this slip by without a reply! So nice of you to visit an older write, my dear friend. I enjoy reading your well-crafted pantoums, and this one was my first. I just did my second this week! They seem so hard until you start doing them and learn the craft of how to make them work seamlessly, something I am still learning. Thanks for all your enthusiastic comments, I find them so encouraging, dear Susan! Smiles upon your day ~ John

This is an amazing tribute to Elton John. I wonder if the pantoum I did using titles of Taylor Swift songs was written for the same contest as this must have been in. I can see that you won, so a big belated congrats to you, my friend. Working my way up through all your poems. It won't be long now, and I 'll have seen them all!

Lukas, I agree about Elton. I've been a fan of his since Goodbye Yellow Brick Road came out in 1973. Thanks for the kind words.
