Notes About The Poem

Feed the Birds

Feed the birds, especially those next door,
For I just admire their flight, see them soar.
Winter is near, food will not be easy.
Storms are here, and the weather is breezy.

I sprinkle birdseed each day. They need more.
True, they find their food, but they even store.
They search for insects and sunflower seeds.
They are careful to avoid toxic weeds.

Alas, the sweetheart who lives next to me,
Is always abroad and is full of glee.
She sends me photos of panoramas,
Though most of all, she loves the sweet llamas.

Can I ever woo her and get married?
Might as well forget her and get buried.

Hello Victor, I really liked how you wove the simple act of feeding birds into something bigger tender and thoughtful. The ending made me smile, even with its twist, because it carried that mix of humor and longing. Holiday Blessings, Victor, Daniel

Instead of feeling buried, use this as a chance to foster a deeper, more meaningful connection, one thoughtful step at a time.

Dear Victor, I was touched and tickled by your sweet musings. I feed the birds in my backyard too, sprinkling seed and hanging suet in the garden for them all year around. I adore the introduction of the “sweetheart” who lives next door, the llamas (so cute) and your romantic notions about wooing her. Heartwarming introspective. Warmest wishes, my dear poet friend.. ~Susan

I like the humor but then I am wondering is this a bird (the nick name the Brits give girls/women) or a female. I need to go out and feed the birds for it is going to be exceptionally cold for a few days. I like this one. Good rhyming, rhythm and theme. Sara K

You seem to be so thoughtful of birds. Who can say if she won't come searching for you ! Unexpected things happen in life. However, the concluding two lines brought a smile to me.
