Notes About The Poem

Written May 11 2026 Monday , not for contest

Feathery Face

What if today is your last day
And tomorrow you meet your demise
Would you fuchsia fear be afraid
Of whatever is the end of your life

Or would you be brave emerald embrace
The journey as part of God’s plan
Maybe you’ll feel calm no tears today
As you are graced with an angel’s hand

So many times we write so blind
Never knowing it could be our last words
Hoping to find a message kind
Or inspiring to red read it be hazel heard

It occurred to me our eyes read
Never sure what we each go through
So dear poets I am simply saying
When I die I will still love you

I’m ok I’m not in death’s feathery face
Nor do I expect to live forever at all
I think of poetry friends of yesterday
Who passed on or left us enthralled

I’m having some minor surgery Tuesday
And all will be as it should be for sure
But if an angel comes and tell me today
Is the day life ends I’m going to be pure

Then tap my son on his poetry soup page
Lift him up the way only poets can
He may then become active again as a way
To grieve loss of a mom by a man

He is poet Tahj Jones here on soup
And again I’m not dying just yellow yet
But we never know the full truth
Until God calls us that final time to bless
