Notes About The Poem

Fear In the Autumn Night

Autumn’s moon over the woods shines white while I walk listening to nature’s sounds drifting throughout and the gravel below my feet. The shift of light embellishes trembling leaves a haunting feeling of dread overcomes me as pools of shadows cast across the ground. With anguish, wet mist and fever dew press a silence surge on my heart to pound fast, numb with fear I sit against a tree drawing my knees-up close to my chest laying my head down upon them wearily. Hearing a sound, I freeze drawing a short breath, I rise to my feet to see. Moving cautiously, branches creak and leaves rattle in flight a sharp breeze springs up slicing through the darkness. As I keep in the shadows from the faint glimmer of the moon, hoping that the blackness around me will leave soon. Weak with fear, and silent cries, tears trickle down my cheeks as the night dies. I say a small prayer as the rising sun brings streaks of blue skies. 9/17/2017

Great writing, Eve. I see congrats down here but I don't know which contest it was entered in. To me, it looks like it would be entered in the emotion contest which is not judged yet. Did you win a different contest with it? It was well deserved!!~

Very nice Eve. It's uncanny how the forest tricks one's senses at night. Taking away our sight we see with imagination adding flashes of darkness.
