Fear

"FEAR"

he sits next to me on my couch.
he sits next to me in my ride.
he rides my shoulder at work.
he walks beside me when I wander.
he laughs at me when I cry.
he says, "do it, do it, do it!" when
I'm ready to leave.
he grins with his cigar and says
"hey kid, hang in there. she'll be
back. she loves you."
I ask him, "how do you know?"
he says, "if she didn't, she'd be
taking you flowers already."
I say, "you told me to let her in.
you told me to let her love me."
he says, "you're losing your mind.
lose it all. I see you every day in
that house. lose it all."
I say, "every bit of everything
made me love her more and more.
I gotta go now. Bach is playing and
I've drawn the shades. it's wet out.
mind your steps."
he says, "it isn't raining and there
is no music playing."
he-
is who I hid out of fear.
