Fathers and Sons
For you, my son, I walk beside your way,
And hope my steps will guide the path you choose.
The lessons I have learned, I give each day,
Held fast in love that time cannot undo.
Each trial of youth may test a patient hand,
Remember, too, I once was young like you,
So with that wisdom learn to understand.
And know that time will bring a gentler view.
No bond can thrive through silence or neglect,
Disputes of youth will fade, but love stays true.
So, open up your heart and let him see
Often the hardest pride yields to empathy.
Now as you grow, remember where you’re from—
Son, all I am is yours, and you are my son.
