Faster Than a Flicker

I sort of hoped we would go out in flames, some dramatic spiral into rageful oblivion—a goodbye with ferocity and flair. But instead, you fled… it was worse than a ghost how quietly you left. No haunting, no wanting, just a blur—out of sight faster than a flicker. I tried to follow the trail of your absence, but it led nowhere—just an empty sky where even the stars refused to burn.

Hi Laura, sounds like this person lost out on a great opportunity for a meaningful relationship...a quality thing for sure. Some people are not ready for the kind of intimacy you might be able to provide. As hard as it might seem in the moment, I suspect they're off on a wild goose chase. People have very strange objectives...and no accounting for it.

Nice poem. A relationship that sputtered rather than flamed out at the end. Liked the last line.
