Notes About The Poem

Farewell

I feel sad at the death of my dog, a loyal companion, and my friend. Our backyard was a gathering place; where we'd roughhouse and play without end. We shared many happy memories, like long walks in the park every night. And it's with a heavy, hurting heart that I say goodbye; he lost this fight. I will miss the camaraderie that allowed our hearts free range to roam. And the instant smile he imparted when he'd jump with joy when I got home. Preoccupied with living my life; I'd sometimes forget to pat his head. And he got less love than he deserved, sleeping curled at the foot of my bed. Willy, it’s time for you to rest now; I hope we will meet again someday. But today, I must bid you farewell; come, visit me in my dreams, my friend.
