Fantasy Or Reality?

Just a seed, a tenuous suggestion.
A slightly lingering look
or the brush of a touch.

Just a smile, an innuendo.
Clinging to a half-empty promise
as it slithers out of reach.

Unsure of what to say or feel,
we tentatively side-step the day.
Searching in the nooks and crannies

of routine, then finding one another,
twiddling fingers of uncertainty
as we idly chat along the way.

Where are the boundaries then?
How far do we push?
Do we turn the innuendo to reality

or walk away from the edge of the
precipice into the arms of normality;
the fear of the unknown safely flown

and blown away from here, leaving
just a seed, a tenuous suggestion.
Forever careful not to touch.
