Fancy Dress

FANCY DRESS

We went to great pains, my wife and I
To get our costumes right.
We’d won first prize as Tarzan and Jane
Back on New Year’s night
So we had a lot to live up to,
The only way was down.
But we found what we wanted on eBay
And each dressed up as a clown

We set off for the party,
With the minimum of fuss.
It had been worth all the effort
(Though we got funny looks on the bus)
We burst into the party,
Eager to impress.
And that’s when we discovered
It wasn’t fancy dress.

Love the competitive feel that's built up in the lengths you went to to have the best costumes and the humorous hit of reality when you arrive to find it's not fancy dress after all. Lol. It sounds like the kind of mistake I'd make. I once went to school convinced it was a non uniform day and insisting to my parents that this was so. It was a very uncomfortable day being the only one in casual clothes that day :-O lol. Congrats on your placement :-)
