Falling

Everything was so sharp at first.

Then the numbness,

Causing my arms to flail, then flop down.

Drooling everywhere.

Time.

Time is wavering.

Time is a pendulum.

Clink, clink, clink.

Focusing on the steady clink.

That’s what minutes are.

That’s what days are.

Adrenaline…

Can’t kill.

I remember when everything was sharp,

And I was happy.

My brain was fast.

Faster than the pain could register.

Now, I’m lying here.

Remembering that everything is horrible.

My body cracking, as if I tumbled down a mountain.

And trying to crawl to safely.

Adrenaline can’t kill.

But it can’t save me.

"I remember when everything was sharp, And I was happy. My brain was fast. Faster than the pain could register." We journey from mystery into ever greater wonder. Old age is not easy...young and battered is not easy -- but transformation through faith is possible. When alone, I found a way to reach out. No one has ever done it alone. I needed lots of help. No one ever arrives, but we do get nearer, to the sacred essence of divine spirit. Your brave, honest poem inspires. Very well written!!
