FAITH IN GOD WHO WARNS US AGAINST LIFTING UP OURSELVES
God warns us against lifting up ourselves toward vanity
By His authority humbling our being haughty
To make us dependent on Him midst sincerity
With faith that believes in His salvation-certainty.
God warns us against lifting up ourselves toward perversion
By His truth enforcing His compassion
To lead us choose what is right midst Scriptural decision
With faith that seeks heavenly vision.
God warns us against lifting up ourselves toward worldliness-flight
By His guidance ushering through His light
To keep us satisfied in His grace with delight
With faith that clings to His Word along prayer-plight.
God warns us against lifting up ourselves toward hurting woes
By His admonition protecting us from sorrows
To teach us become wise in overcoming foes
With faith that glows through His blessing-flows.
God warns us against lifting up ourselves toward brokenness
By His compassion healing our guilt’s ailment-soreness
To forgive us of our confessed sinfulness and selfishness
With faith that cleaves to His graciousness.
God warns us against lifting up ourselves toward afflicting pain
By His protection securing us under His reign
To make us hide in His care midst hopelessness-strain
With faith that encloses us around His provisions’ gain.
God warns us against lifting up ourselves toward wastage
By His principles counselling us for our stewardship advantage
To make us serve Him joyfully along eternal divine wage
With faith that functions by His powerful usage.
