Failure At the Guard
So there is failure at the guard
And we
Are back to square one
Seawall tettering over sea
I told them to watch
They did not understand
Such unconscious children
Do they think it was always this
They will know how it was done
Building it back again
Perhaps they need to build always
And know the cost
Of freedom, the worth of days
But what of us who felt so sure
How did they before our eyes
Robbed our children blind?
Did the guards sleep
Or was it only?
How did they borrow and let us pay
For the luxury they consumed?
And we pioneers
Cannot teach our children how to watch
For we looking saw nothing
Except the weight and the latch
Upon our backs, we were bent
Not knowing why. I told
Them never identify with the enemy
While through the storm
Did you hear any rich men howling
When the markets were tumbling?
I saw none in the tent cities
Urging us not to look at fear
The Bible howling for love
