Fading Like a Flower

To become a man at seven
As my brother lay dying
At such an early age
Life to be trying

Awaiting the news
I,m now crying through my tears
Without my brother
Future fears

Believing there's hope
Maybe angels will say
Take care of your brother
For with you he will stay

Down the corridor i wait
As i hear the doors
A Doctor appears
As my tears froze

To my father he says
With a handshake he sighs
We just couldn't save him
We did all that we tried

I felt my tears melt
The ice in my eyes
We never got the chance
To say our goodbyes

Dad turns to me as i look in his eyes
The look of a parent
Knowing their son has just died
He held me close as we broke down and cried

Through broken tears, he says to thee
James my son, it's just you and me
We have lost Billy to a higher power
But he went in his sleep
Fading like a flower

" Dedicated to my brother Billy, knocked down in front of me at the age of 9 "

James, this poem is beautiful beautiful, it made me cry, I cannot imagine how you felt as a 7 year old, to lose your brother, who must of been your hero, I lost my Mum last month, we did not have the chance to say goodbye, I got there when she has already lost consciousness.. Wonderful write James, and I feel for your loss, so much, but your brother would be so proud of you, jo xx

Beautiful tribute to your brother. This is such a heartfelt piece. It's one of the most difficult things for a family to face--tragic for a boy of seven. Thank you for sharing this poem with us and for your kind words on mine. Blessings to you. Karen

James, I am so sorry for your loss. How terrible that must have been for you to witness. Please know that I understand the loss of a sibling. Mine has been gone four and a half years now. We lost him to an accident at the age of 43. Blessings on you today, friend. Donna
