Fading Ink

The fading ink of sorrow, etches deep,

inkwells dry, brittle quills fall asleep.

The page will not be scripted,

all the damage done has drifted,

into the ether of the sage.

In recognition of "Erase My Existence" by Ink Express. Great read!

Every poet , one time or other in the poetic journey begins to doubt if the talent in him/her is waning. It happens with all . These words of will boost the confidence of one in self doubt. Appreciate your good intentions. Congratulations Frank on your POTD.

Hi Valsa, I don't know "Frank," this is Randy. But, if I hear from Frank, I'll tell him you called.

Wow, this is such a beautiful sight to see! ~ I’m sorry I’m late to congratulate you. I don’t usually check POTD. But it’s not me ~ it’s you. Your sublime rhymes, and the way you’ve worded that, truly make this recognition so very well deserved! I would love to keep reading you, dear Randy! It’s so nice to have authentic poets like you on Soup ~ and even better when I can somehow be a source of inspiration for your quill to never run dry. Thank you so much, and congratulations!!!! 💃🧜‍♀️ Sending you warmest of light!

Dear Ink, you all inspire me. Every time I read someone's else's work, it inspires me to reach beyond my own expectations. I am an apt pupil, to a sea of mentors.

A haunting, finely distilled piece. The fading-ink metaphor carries sorrow beautifully from the deep etching of grief to the final release “into the ether of the sage,” while the dry inkwells and sleeping quills give the poem a poignant stillness. Congratulations on POTD

Ink made fade, but, the shared story remains deep within the heart. Ink is very inspiring and you honor her with this poem. Congratulations Randy, on Poem of the Day. : ) Hugs, Brandy

Yeah, she rocks! I just love the fact, that you can find inspiration everywhere. I've found it, from reading all of the gifted quills, that twists and thrills, with a look that kills!

Your short, melancholy verses beautifully capture the quiet finality of grief, where the transition from active pain to empty pages feels deeply profound. The evocative imagery of "brittle quills" and "fading ink" perfectly illustrates a soul too exhausted to continue writing its own sorrow. By allowing the pain to drift into "the ether of the sage," the poem offers a haunting yet peaceful resolution to heartbreak. Congratulations!

I humbly admit, I just returned the favor "Ink" evoked, and felt compelled to return my respect, with a reflection of, "life" thru her eyes. Diamond skies!

Thank you Constance, this was a response poem from another poet on the soup. I returned hers, with one of mine I wrote, reflecting how her poem made "me" feel. I am an apt pupil of the talent I'm witnessing on this site.

Why Miss Dorothy, what a kind response to something I have grown to love. It's a part of me now, and I owe all of you, my respects for the inspiration. If my team wins tomorrow, I'll have a wonderful weekend, but only if you will too. Deal?

Congrats on POTD!!! This five-line poem is a powerful look at emotional exhaustion. Instead of just saying "I'm sad" or "I'm tired," the writer uses the physical tools of writing—ink, quills, and pages—to show what it feels like when you completely run out of words to describe a painful situation. -Nobody Special

Hey Randy, Congrats on POTD, the moment when the mind finally stops endlessly re-scripting its own historical damage and allows the ink of ancient grief to dry for good. Concise, deeply wise, and luminous work, Randy. Blessings, Daniel

Thank you Anne, I feel bad, because I wrote this as a reply poem to the beautiful poem I read by Ink Express, "Erase my Existence". So, she deserves some credit herself. Inspiration comes in all shapes, sizes, and locations. I'm glad you liked it.

Oh wow how beautiful and how sweet ~ such a gorgeous response poem this is, to Ink's poem, so thoughtful of your dear Randy, i love the way you've woven sentiments here, even though the words weep and fade but the inkwells will never go dry, such is life too, "The page will not be scripted, all the damage done has drifted, " Thats the best line I've read today! And indeed so heartwarming to gift a poet with such sincere words for their work ~ pleasure reading this, congratulations on receiving POTD 🍁🍂💫⭐

Thanks Valsa, it's funny, I catch myself compelled to return feedback in poetic form. What's funnier, I tend to replicate the style of writing of each poet I read. I feel I owe payment for being subjected to such beauty.

It's not easy to give feedback in poetic form. You take pain to do so. Definitely you deserve some payment 😄

I too have read her poem.... ! It is so poignant. Though she bleeds ink, her inkwell will never go dry. Your response to her poem shows your deep admiration for her. Thanks dear Randy for your kind visit to my poem and your lovely comment.
