Face Up

Why do we close our eyes
Or look away
From times of despair
Do we think by doing this
The problems are not there
If you can't see them
Have they gone away?
Problematic worries
Usually, come to stay
It's no good ignoring them
Or try to shut them out
By closing your eyes
If not faced up to
Worries double in size
Just pray for courage
Then take a long deep breath
Before the despair, you feel cause death
Death from lack of reasoning
From common sense too
A death that is consuming
That's taken hold of you
Try resting your brain awhile
To get your thinking straight
Address this sadness right away
Before it's too late
Once you have made this decision
And continue in this vein
Your anxiety and worry
Will cease to cause you pain
With your eyes wide open
A new awareness you may find
And this new perspective
Will bring you peace of mind

Hello Shirley … perhaps if the roles are reversed then future outcomes could be different. A very pertinent poem indeed Shirley - thank you - Lindsay

Hello Lindsay ... Thank you for your kind comment. We are all looking for peace. Maybe it is too simplistic of me to think that a little less me and a lot more us would be a step toward achieving this' Poetry Soup has been a great help to me. Thank you ... Shirley
