Notes About The Poem

Eyes In Back Of Her Head

Oh for those days as a very small boy
Just me and my mama and maybe a toy
I’d play and I’d play and I think I was good
Remembering back, there was reason I should

And yes, there were times when a good boy could stray
I always got caught, well then, what can I say
It didn’t take long and I figured it out
And I’ll tell you now just what I am talking about

I remember so clearly those words that she said
Mama’s got eyes in back of her head

Mama’s got eyes in back of her head

Oh for those days when such words were believed
So it is no surprise mama was so relieved
Upon learning that these simple words kept me still
And acing the test of who had stronger will

Looking back now with such savored delight
I still tell my mama, she gave me a fright
Checking for eyes through the thick of her hair
Somehow believing inside were a pair

I remember so clearly those words that she said
Mama’s got eyes in back of her head

Mama’s got eyes in back of her head

Kids are believers. My mom was told if she wasn’t good, the rag man would get her…talk about frightening! Eeks!

what a delightful poem, Mike....it brought back memories of my mom saying the same thing to me when I asked her "how did you know? "I've got eyes in the back of my head" For a few years I believed her until the day she gave herself a perm at home and her hair fell out. tragic.
