Everything Today Is Instant

Everything today is instant! More ram, faster processor – My God!--how I miss the Slower and Lesser; when one had pause between actions – took time for personal stills and reflections. Nowadays, plugs in all ears; screens everywhere... gone the epic when people would openly share, bits and pieces of meaningful self: when things were far less programmed; from the heart, direct and spontaneous; a time when people seemed less fearful of silence – to be alone with one's thoughts – needing less external distraction, the flashing and ringing electronics that are rapidly becoming our modern pulpits and courts.

Kids nowadays need to be made aware of how rude it is to be glued to their cell phones ignoring everyone. I especially dislike it when driving. My granddaughter is not allowed to be on her cell . We converse instead. We can’t let electronics be the babysitter. I have my alone time as the sun is rising. I could certainly relate to your poem Joe. Excellent! Blessings xxoo

Hi Connie; sounds to me like you are an aware and loving grandparent. If people are to know self...know a God, which I firmly believe exists -- they need time to be alone with their thoughts...the only time when spirit can establish itself, consciously in one's being. Blessings my friend. And thank you.

Hello Joe ... no wonder cases of depression and other mental issues are increasing. Your verse truly highlights today's need of flashing lights, buzzers, and a world of unseen robots running our lives - very, vry good Joe - Lindsay

I know -- drives me crazy; I love just sitting and thinking. Relish those times of quiet...alone with my God. Thank you my friend.

Yes indeed, Joe; how refreshing to be free from the fear of silence. Thoughtful writing as always.

So few people are comfortable with themselves. I am not perfect with me, but not afraid to sit down and have conversation, and accept some constructive criticism.

Ha, ha. I remember when 'instant coffee,' pushbutton microwaves, and disposable diapers were all the rage. How CONVENIENT they seemed... Yet their insidious message of 'I need it now!' wormed its way into folks' souls. Oh, well. No turning back now, gw

For sure; no turning back...best we can do, is step aside every once in awhile for a breather. I guess, in a way, that is what Soup is. Blessings my friend.

Prince de Mino, oh, your highness! An instant Fav. Huzzah! You and I grewup in sane times, my friend, with Values. The main value was the ability to be happiest with other people in their physical presence. I have penned many poems on this subject. Sorry, no device is worth it. Nor are hanging out in social media. Do whatever you can to be with others..I know you-do that.. There is more hate, sex on any PC or device than a Tv. TV is a propoganda tool to keep us stupid..Pangie
