Every Pretty Thing

pretty things
good for my serotonin
but large waste of time
flowers along the trail
leading to the mountain
it's too easy to admire your beauty
stroke your soft petals
nuzzle your delicious fragrance
you get all the attention
but the looming craggy grey cliff
you have to climb
find finger holds and toe holds
hang precariously onto fierce stone
hoist your body up
past the point of exhaustion
to reach a summit high above
the clouds, the rivers, the trees
and every pretty thing
