Every drop

I can’t turn my faucet off.

I keep letting it run all the time.
It’s running my water bill up,
and I keep getting distracted by the noise.

Every time I try to do my work,
it drowns out the sound of the birds chirping,
the children laughing,
and my friends talking.

I always get in trouble for it.
My teachers say I get distracted too easily,
and my friends tell me I’m never paying attention.

Lately, I’m even having trouble focusing in sports,
because all I want to do is listen to my faucet drip.

The water is always there,
filling every quiet moment,
echoing through the room
until it’s all I can hear.

I know I should probably turn it off,
or at least try to fix it,
but every time I reach for the handle,
I stop.

Because it doesn’t bother me.

I like the sound of the faucet leaking.

I could listen to it all day if I could.
Other people may find it annoying,
but I don’t know if I could live without it.
