Evening Sojourn
We sat and drank our coffee
on a summer's eve in June,
talking away the hours
until rain clouds hid the moon.
You spoke about the future,
I was buried in the past.
We wound up in the present,
time with you is unsurpassed.
I love our little journeys,
these excursions of the mind.
Unsure of where we're going,
never knowing what we'll find.
With you there is a closeness
that I've never known before,
a unity of being
that leaves me wanting more.
Day has turned to darkness
as the cool night settles in,
I'm anxious for tomorrow
when it all begins again.
