Notes About The Poem

January 20, 2025 in the mid-morning hour

Especially Sweet and Cold

Dark, black, midnight in my cup.
Cream is light, especially sweet.

Hot, warm, rekindle Winter’s mug.
Bitter chill, biting, nipping at heels.

“Baby it’s cold outside” teeny trees.
Tenderness handled in warm grip.

The pour fell into the cold-temp cup.
Warmth filled every space, then

my lips, my tongue, inside cheeks;
fills cherry mountains below eyes.

A caffeinated prescript aft’ “ahh,”
and Boston brown “molasses” bread.

America’s on a limousine roll
with presidential flags waving.

Transfer of power, balancing -
perhaps we can all be friends, again.

Excellent read! -- I doubt the friends part. But hope springs eternal. Good and evil I have not seen seek common ground in my lifetime -- but maybe a longer stay of sensibility. Praying.

Warm hugs on this cold morning, dear Kim. It will brighten your day more than a cup of steaming coffee. The time is auspicious when transfer of power has just happened and presidential flag is cheerily fluttering. Beautiful couplets!

And why not? Why can't we all just be friends? Enough enemies against us. You'd think we might want to unite.

To think otherwise, makes no sense, but commonsense is positioned and we will see what happens. Sighing…

A nice cup of coffee or cocoa is perfect for a cold day. There's more chance of finding a good cup of coffee on a deserted island than we will agree again very soon. People who don't investigate facts have already made up their minds.

Nice one, especially the reference to the molasses bread from Boston alluding to your other poem. I hope we can all be friends again
