Escaping the Now

Escaping the Now How many hells on the head of a pin? chastised and canonized... Am I a saving saint or sinister sin? How many times must we live in pain? fertilized and fossilized... Trapped in turmoil a punitive paradigm plane Ambient anguish of a suffocating sorrow one stone I stand alone... Accumulating sand in my banished burrow Awaiting destructive dissolving death thrown like a decadent drone... As we dethrone our battered breath Trying to escape the never-ending now toxic tears of yesteryears... Sinking into oblivion as we break the bough Satisfying shadows that swallow the soul facing fears with egotistical ears... Confronting eternity the hypnotic hole. My, my WW, what questions to contemplate. Your words are a paradoxical paradigm for how many of us view life.

This gave me shivers with the line, "Ambient anguish of suffocating sorrow." Very captivating write that speaks much about a spiral down causing hypnosis. Loved the end line as well!

Wow! WW you've done it again - It sure is a conundrum you have posed to us. On the surface, it's definitely conflicting position. Perhaps I could say - better to live and savor in the 'Now'- for this is the present' - a 'Gift' so don't escape it - The 'Past' is history and the 'Future' is as yet a mystery - so let's not worry about it just yet. You Nailed it - Worthy of top honors and a fave from me...Maria

"Confronting eternity the hypnotic hole," what a way to end this sad but well written write my friend! John, you have captured an emotion that we all have endured at one time or another, and I wonder if you have felt this way many times? I hope this a rare occurrence! The pain that is felt from the stone that is all alone is quite magnified within your piece! What a fabulous poem my friend, You have amazed me by your incredible skill this morning! What a fantastic piece, Great work!!

I suppose it is the same for all of us...we would all like to escape the "Now" at certain moments or other; I would imagine, at times, that is the attraction of writing poetry. As poets we have the ability to retreat into our own little world away from all the outside pressures being brought to bear -- an enviable asset! as one person once said to me. Cracking little poem, WW - loved it! My very warmest regards as always. :) john

chastised and canonized...what a wonderful juxtaposition here. I love your use of alliteration throughout, WW. That second stanza has me contemplating ....one stone, I stand alone. Brings to mind biblical themes for me. Good luck in the contest.
