Escape

The open space calls to you
Your feet start to move
You throw yourself forward
And break into a run

Maybe if you're fast enough, you can escape
Maybe if it's far enough, you can bury the pain

The running has slowed now
Your feet are bloody and sore
You wince with every step
Should you go back?

Maybe you aren't fast enough, to leave it all behind
Maybe it's not far enough, the hurt's still in your mind

But you press on.
Your feet will stumble
But they still keep walking
You will not turn back

Maybe you'll be fast enough, some day you'll make it out
Maybe you'll go far enough, and you'll forget the doubt
