I am in year 6 of recovery from opioids. I would not be here without the love and support of my family and the freedom only God can give.
Fear leaks out my pores Stinging my eyes as it rolls down Running on and on I turn my head around I look again and I see You're still chasing me And I run on I run on I run away then back again I can't stay but here I stand My choices are not made by me anymore Since I became yours I'm chained to you I'm bound and gagged I Try to scream You pull my strings And I lie down I lie back down Dread crawls up my spine Claws reach down my throat Squeezing me inside Until I choke I try to hide To turn aside from you But I don't I don't I run away then back again I can't stay but here I stand My choices are not made by me anymore Since I became yours I'm chained to you I'm bound and gagged I Try to scream You pull my strings And I lie down I lie back down There's no way out.. only through But now I see the light because of you Because of you I am at peace I am free! No one holds my strings I'm not alone anymore You gave me a voice to sing You gave me…bravery! You gave me…hope! You gave me…the keys! You cut my ropes! You gave me a life, I can be proud of! You gave me….love! You gave me love. You gave me… LOVE!

Dear Crystol, I am deeply moved by the potent heartache and the bloom of hope, joy and love expressed in your potent lyric. Such an intimate outpouring of emotion and imagery of being "bound and gagged" by addiction.. your imagery so striking it impacts the soul deeply. I adore the verse "There's no way out.. only through/But now I see the light" for a triumphant turning point in embracing recovery with hope and love and God. Indeed, your bravery and the gift of forgiveness cannot be denied. Your golden pen shines! Congratulations for your success in Kai's contest. Warmest wishes my sweet friend.. ~Susan

Tysm Silent One, your kind words of encouragement are well and gratefully received! Good use of words, demons...truth. My nightmares are about relapsing. I pray daily to avoid that humiliation and pain. <3<3xoxo

Is this for the addiction contest? I've never suffered from addiction except for a five or six year stint with tobacco when I was a teen. The opioid scandal really ensnared so many. Your poem is palpable. We feel the emotions

What a refreshing review Tom, thank you so much! Praise God you've avoided the terror of addiction! I look back and cannot even recognize that person. Almost a possession. I'm eternally grateful for Forgiveness and love given to me without conditions! Xo oh, and yes, for the contest.
