Erase the Pain

They hadn't spoken for over ten years
A father and daughter ~ How could it be?
Perchance they talked telepathically through tears
  Was his intuition prophetic?
  Would she be empathetic?
He picked up the phone ~ Let's see!

Dialing the number, his blood ran cold
Hesitating, he questioned his goal
What if this call causes sorrow untold?
He trembled, and sighed a deep sigh
The call would be hello again or goodbye--
Forever! ~ He tugged at the pain in his soul...

Ten years. Oh, my. This sounds so real. I'm sure in some cases it is true; I do not want to think of such pain, and yet here it is, spread out and open.

My father and I aren't too close -we talk a few times a year, that's all - hope this brave gesture is returned!

Gershon, that last couplet raises the goose bumps, narrows the eyes, and teases tears from the heart.

A beautiful poem. Unfortunately happens more often than we know. An awesome write, Gershon.

Thank you for your kind words, Line...and so true that it happens way too often...even in "the best of families." :) gw
