Epiphany

And while the music played, We danced our legs to stupor. Legs dancing, wrought-stricken upon the floor While the eternal music played. Where dwells the lone and the dead? Deep into the darkness I stood peering; Haunted by horror Pursued by terror; Instances of which all mortal names hung. Where were they when their graves were dug? Eyes alone, drowned in total blindness Could but see only darkness. Here comes nothing, blooming, The pierced one, bleeding. Day by day we draw closer to mortal home, Deeper and deeper, we crawled to the caves; Where lay ancient runes and a forbidden Tree producing lustrous fruits from its armpit! From the sprinkled blood of the innocent To the last drop of the rain; The ones spilled in vain: There comes nothing out of the dust! Where are they, the ones we lost? While the music is still playing, We realized; like a flash, We emerged as from scratch, And we began growing. We began thinking of ourselves, We began asking who we are We began looking for the things we've lost.
