Endangered Species

My fingers feverishly racing over the keys, Searching for the words…the right words To express in verse my embattled pleas On behalf of endangered animals and birds. I was moved to adopt their cause of late My fingers feverishly racing over the keys, Recalling the awful fate of Arctic baby seals Watching a video brought me to my knees. Learning of the garbage found on high seas Can we restore them to pristine condition? My fingers feverishly racing over the keys While daily, our earth is in blighting attrition. Soon, rampant pollution will overcome us If we do not take up this cause, so please Remember, as a contribution to the crisis, My fingers feverishly racing over the keys. Written July 3, 2022

Ecology is something that our great grandchildren are going to wish we had taken more seriously; the baby seals fate is unconscionable.

Yes, it is. I have really had a burden in my heart for them for a long, long time. I just fear we are passing on the buck to future generations, for whom it will be too late.

It's ironic that the only beings on this planet who are able to prevent destruction are the very same beings who provoke it. I was going to say I enjoyed reading your poem Milt but perhaps 'enjoyed' is the wrong word. Best say I was stirred by your excellent write. Cheers - Gary

I am with you on that Milton. It is funny you wrote this. I take my dog Tavi to an area that is protected and is beautiful. We walk on the trail for miles. Everytime I see someones trash I cringe. I actually pick the cans up, they bother me so much. Well written great theme...

O! The irony of it all. Man - perhaps the most endangered (and endangering!) species - his fingers racing over the keys to spare Arctic baby seals. If it weren't so tragic, I'd burst into Huzzahs!... Chin up, Milt, and keep those fingers flying! :) gw

Oh, I plan to, gw. I'll be typing, I suppose, until my fingers are worn to the bone. Writing is a compulsion for me...if you have not already guessed that!

It's so very sad that not only have we humans cluttered our lands with trash, but we've also infringed upon their habitat. We are such a slovenly people. Thank you for pointing out one of our many flaws.

Thanks, Jenna. I have not written as much about environmental protection and the subject of endangering wildlife as I should have. I try to practice what I preach on this subject, but I have lately come to realize that, in general, we've let things get completely out of hand.
