Emptiness Inside

Standing all alone, we watched The winner of the gold,* Who’d skated quite amazingly, Her elegance extolled. Her teammates sobbed and ranted And the cameras caught it all While the winner clutched a teddy bear And listened to them bawl. What should have been her moment By her teammates was denied And when asked her feelings, she described “An emptiness inside.” Disappointment in athletics Is quite common to report, But both doping and sore losing Cast a shadow on the sport. *In the women’s Olympic figure skating event

I didn't watch the ice skating in this year's olympics, except the American Chinese yiung man who won the gold. As a former skater myself, the sport has become overly athletic rather than the elegant sport it used to be. Also much of the music these skaters skate to is truly not skatable. There, I said my piece! / Maurice

Great story told in rhyme. The teddy bear came as a total surprise in the poem, a teddy bear instead of a medal.

I would certainy give that girl from Belgium a twirl - I don't know how she could spin so long and maintain her balance - but, yes, integrity in sports seem to be all but forgotten. Nice one, Ilene! Aloha!
