I composed Embodying the Light in response to the "Embodying the Light Poetry Contest," which dared us to delve into the intricate interplay between illumination and obscurity. The line of inquiry—truth imbibed, awaiting assimilation, felt in our bones during time-dissolved meditation—stirred something profound within me. I was compelled to explore how light, often a symbol of hope, can paradoxically carry the weight of sorrow and introspection.
In embracing a somber tone reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe, I sought to capture that haunting duality: light that both comforts and challenges, revealing our most profound truths amid the shadows. Though my style echoes Poe's macabre elegance, I remain a distinct voice, using his influence to spotlight the hidden complexities of our inner lives. In a contest that celebrates brilliance and darkness, I hoped this piece would stand out by daring to show that even the most radiant light is inseparable from the night that cradles it.
