Embers Gone Cold

I seek for warmth by embers getting cold
and though I coax, they will not burst to flame
I sit and mourn the heart of love you sold
that bode in tigress broken now and tame

my body shivers by the dying fire
I wrap around me words of long ago
that scorched my heart with burning tongues of fire
but cold sensations now my heart does know

before I close my eyes and drift to death
I hold an ember close to bosom bare
a searing pain induces gasp of breath
and yet the burn is welcome wound I wear

You left me cold, alone in night so dark
Love's fire died and left me not a spark

Eileen

Beautiful sonnet! I was thinking of fire today, too...even though this poem is from a long time ago...

Death will not dare take you, for it knows a love savage and young is calling for you...death will not fight a heart that lives to love you...this pain of confused love cuts slowly down the center of my heart...your poem puts your agony so close to the core of everything Eileen. "And yet the burn is welcome wound I wear..." intense woman! Along with the heavy honesty is also great alliteration. This poem hurts yet is so alive...J.A.B.

Justin...you bring tears. Thank you. My intensity will one day be the end of me. I'm a passionate Warrior Princess in a world of mundane reality...DREAMS up in smoke. Thanks for being the epic in this life...hugs

Love never totally dies if hope remains . . . hope is upon the wind and I pray it fills you completely . . . and if the wind fails -- I will bring it to your door!! 7

I am more than merely singed by your words; I am truly scorched by the pain they portray. Wonderful writing, as ever, Eileen.
