Elevator Etiquette

It’s hard to social distance
In an elevator car
For just one other person
Ups the ante way too far.

So when another occupant
Steps in, there is no doubt
That I will just excuse myself
By quickly stepping out.

The regulars respect this,
Riding solo with a mask
And waiting for an empty car
To not be called to task.

But strangers or impatient folk
Or those who doubt the facts
Just waltz right in no matter how
Their rider-mate reacts.

At times like those, which I believe
Will happen more and more,
I wish, instead of 9, I lived
On the 1st or 2nd floor.

Too bad not everybody is on the same page with regards to wearing masks. Nice thoughts

Where I live it's two in the elevator at any time, and with mask! If more than 2 try to squeeze in I get out and wait, or if I'm on the mood I'll take the stairs to the 3rd floor, though it's arduous for my short leg dachshund. / M

Love the punch line Ilene just think how fit you would be if you had to climb 9 fights of stairs - getting out is sensible - shame others are so inconsiderate though:-( hugs Jan xx

I live in a pet-free building where the Humane Society encourages the elderly to adopt pets, so they do. Virus or not, I still exit when someone enters with their dog as being stuck in an elevator for 2-3 hours (the time it takes to respond) is not my idea of Heaven. The petowners know that, but not one has ever asked if its OK to enter with an animal! Lucky you! Aloha! Rico

Resonates very loudly with me and with my family as well. Well-penned, my friend! Cheers, Gershon
