Notes About The Poem

Notes: Café Terrace at Night" is more than a visual representation of a scene; it is a portal into Van Gogh's inner thoughts and emotional landscape. The café itself takes on a symbolic role as a place of gathering, reflection, and solitude. Source: www.1st-art-gallery.com

Ekphrasis on Cafe Terrace at Night - POTD

Stir my moonlight coffee
with your freshly dipped brush
in bright yellow ochre ~
I will not complain.

Sprinkle pigments from
from your pallets
on my unflavoured coffee~
I will not complain.

Even when
your indigo eyes
spill Prussian blue
to veil my night sky~
I will not complain.

Come sit with me
on this café terrace
where unfinished canvases
lean on metaphoric walls,
where unwritten poems
bathe beneath starry nights.

"Ekphrasis on Cafe Terrace at Night - POTD" is a delightful and imaginative poem. You've successfully captured the essence of Van Gogh's painting while adding your own unique voice and perspective. The playful tone, the vivid imagery, and the sense of shared creativity make this poem a truly enjoyable read.

I love your ekphrasis and the painting. A belated congratulations on POTD. I sense the painting could well be a nod to The Last Supper (Jesus standing before his disciples and Judas leaving through the door) Cheers - Gary

A vivid ekphrasis, i love how your poem poem is like a tender meditation on the act of creation and the shared experience of life, seen through the lens of art and companionship. It shows an acceptance of whatever the other person brings—whether it’s colour, darkness, or imperfection, creating an atmosphere of openness and trust. The blending of the everyday coffee with the creative process painting, writing elevates the simple act of sharing a moment into something deeper and more meaningful.

Dear poetic soul, i love van gogh and his art and his lifestory is truly inspiring and touching. Youv written a very unique and moving take on the artwork youv picked here. I love especially your opening with “ stir my moonlight coffee” and how youv said “ i will not complain” and then how youv made your words flow and how youv written the ending really stood out for me! “ where unfinished canvases lean on metaphoric walls, where unwritten poems bathe beneath starry nights.” So clever of you to mention also “ starry nights” love that! A fave definitely for me this is! Congratulations on your win in brians contest too. Sending you light always
