Scrambled Egg Divided
My son, like a sun, brought sunshine to my life
In view of his mother's immutable reins that rain strife
During Jeff's formidable years he saw his parents interlude
Tenuous, a hen and a rooster continuously squawking and in feud
Seeing his parents always bereft had an effect on his shell
And his therapist demurely wrote that our son was living in hell
It hurts to see a young and brittle psyche torn apart
And I only wished my wife flew the coop and gave us heart
Yet she clung on, and the pages of our storybook cried
Tears over a child's sketch of a scrambled egg divided
