Ebb and Flow II

Every morning when we wake, There’s no way for us to know Which direction we will take Or how the day will ebb and flow. Maybe someone’s feeling sick Or possibly, the car won’t start. Stressors wait - just make your pick, For they can tear your world apart. Or you’ll get the greatest news And there’ll be smiles and shouts and hugs. Sadly, we don’t get to choose Among the highs and lows and shrugs. Yet we deal with what we get And somehow, through it all, we cope Because our fortune’s never set And for tomorrow - there is hope.

A great way to look at each new waking day! I start my day with a light breakfast (a coffee and a store bought pastry or a biscotti I made myself; then feed the dog. For the next fews until noon I either write, edit poems or translate in German, French and German – just to keep not to lose too much of my fluency in these languages. After lunch it's calling friends or grocery shopping. / Maurice

Ilene, This is a beautiful, hopeful poem. A mix of hope and reality, each in just the right measure. A great one to start out a new year.

- My day started with a blizzard, Ilene ... walked my dogs ... came in like a frozen snowman ... and for tomorrow more snow ... sigh ... I survive ... I think :) - hugs
