Notes About The Poem

persimmons

Easter In September

Easter in September
Hiding in plain sight
Lying on the ground
Fell off in the night

Smaller than an egg
Lovely orange and bright
Rubbed on pork and smoked
Ice cream churn delight

Full of large black seeds
Extraction is a mess
Best to wash them well
Squeeze them through a press

Ever so delicious
Succulent and sweet
Hunting golden eggs
Father’s gracious treat

Awesome Jeff! There are three persimmons on our property - they are a succulent and sweet treat.

Superb, Jeff. I do wish you had worked int he word "persimmons," because some folks probably never heard of or seen one. They are delicious when they are ready, but only then! Enjoy.

This is what fell from one tree last night and this morning. We didn't get peaches or apricots this year, but we got apples and persimmons in droves!
