Early Spring
EARLY SPRING
The cat purrs the piano plays and the dog keeps alert
And the kitchen smells like fresh pudding
As the wind blows outside where the car sits
And automotive products wait to be used
The kettle and the oven warm up as the cookie
Dough is being made with so many good ingredients
Such as molasses barely darker than maple syrup or
Honey as golden as sun tea and flour- cookies for all
Plants and seeds are purchased but it is too early to start
The outdoor garden and the weeds still need to be pulled
then burned but the matches cannot be lit until the wind
Is gone but have to be before the showers begin
The weather is comfortably cool and children play
While the adults stroll the neighborhood or make some
Hot Cross Buns and start seedlings inside for later planting
With enthusiasm-early spring has sprung
