Early Harvest
early harvest
your familiar linger
in damp air —
close, like summer heat;
surrounding me as i weave
through shaded tree family
of soft-bristle forest.
i breathe you into open lungs filled;
running on wet and mossy earth trail
with your signature scent all over me.
inhaling this shifting dance of you
i feast on sounds of gentle rain
in nature’s off-beat symphony;
strong winds stirring, lifting us as feather-light
dancers in swirling sand, and
laying you beneath me in grounded, rich soil
of sun-warmed earth.
you are the nourishment that grows me
to towering heights in heaven.
harvest comes early in sweet offerings
of plump, ripened fruit-on-the-vine
grown through arduous journey on broken path;
secret blend of you and me
and long months of lock-down,
invested in love.
