Notes About The Poem

Eagle Rock Reverie

Written: August 06, 2025 ********* The traffic roars as wounded gulls. metal beats skated over the asphalt waves, each honk a fractured prayer, fleeing the city, restless breath. I sit beneath a twisted jacaranda tree. Its lavender flowers unfurl as the sun dips low Parrots squabble in the canopy— boisterous, unrepentant, and singing, stirring the dawn with their raucous cries, a beauty entwined with longing. Their melody exists beyond, concrete and clocks, I sip coffee—malnourished warmth— Its bitter essence wedged between my ribs, where comfort once thrived. The chipped cup, a reflection of lost trust. Each face that passes me is a silent question, I have forgotten how to answer. Once I skated these streets hungry for names, for the echo of someone to cram my void, But identity remains a fog caught between chain-link fences and fragrant jasmine vines. Yet still, I listen for that singular voice amid the clamorous parrots, the one that might beckon me back into the wholeness of myself.

The experience of one lost in the roar of a city of faceless men looking in vain for a face and a singular voice that stood distinct from all clamorous noises, to fill the void within is powerfully narrated. "Parrots squabble in the canopy— boisterous, unrepentant, and singing, stirring the dawn with their raucous cries, a beauty entwined with longing." Love this stanza. The raucous cries of the parrots serve as a befitting image to match with the boisterous nature of the city. This goes into my FAVE.

Dear Sotto, poetry stunningly poignant and layered —urban chaos woven with delicate moments of longing and memory. The contrast between the mechanical roar of the city and the raw, natural chorus of parrots is breathtaking, like noise and nature battling for one's attention—and soul....Hugs

the flow and imagery of your poem is outstanding dear Sotto. I especially liked the chipped coffee cup as a metaphor of lost trust. That's powerful on a couple of levels. I was initially filled with sadness that later converted to hope. The yearning for wholeness and authenticity is invaluable. Just an exquisite write! enjoy your evening, Sara

- Metal, asphalt and noise... remind me how important it is to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature... (that's how I live) - No parrots...but eagles :) - It's not every day I meet people... maybe I forget how to respond too :) - Much to think about in this beautiful poem, Las :) - hugs

There is that voice that can bring one back, listen in the quiet and it will come. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K
