Dutch Oven

There's my cast iron Dutch oven pot, Sitting on the counter, still dirty. Word is, "Don't wash", or it will rust rot. Old fat increases its purity.

Aha, another person who uses cast iron cookware. We love using ours and have numerous Ferrous fying pans in our home. They last a long time! They're just heavy, which probably allowed people to ease want to try something aluminum based unfortunately. However, it's nice to use cookware that has been used for a long time.

It seems to give the best flavor when used on a gas stove. Thank you for commenting.

Sounds like a 'chemistry experiment before its time.' Perhaps that's because I know zero about chemistry. ~ Just sayin'

I still use a cast iron skillet. When it gets real bad, I simply burn it in an open fire. Cleans it right up. A fun one, Hilda.

I was surprised to learn, years ago, that you're not supposed to wash cast iron. But rinsing is the recommended way. I enjoyed your poem, Hilda. Blessings.

Thank you for your input. I do wash it right before I use it again. It's never long without grease.

reminds me of my mother's cast iron skillet and cornbread stick pans. She never washed them...only rinsed. She called it 'aging.' Nicely done! have a splendid weekend, Sara

Thank you. I learned to cook with cast iron from my late husband. The Dutch oven is Utah's state pot.
