———————————-
On a dusty road I returned to
my ancestral land
with a donkey, cart, provisions
all circled with poetry anthologies
wild whirlwinds escorted our wheels
it was no big deal
forever away from neon lights
I will be flying kites
I arrived at a forlorn wooden door ajar
wild cats with hooting owl taken occupancy
dust thick cloaked oak table waiting
willows billowing a westerly welcome baiting
with rakes, spades, shovel stacked against
broken fence, morning glories heckling
hence I will quietly write as
my wrinkles twinkle delight
where vast turquoise sky meets
mustard wheat field whimpering
there thick dust as memories
sweet and bitter will skitter sopranos
sottos, sonnets etheric
into sunset molecules on parchments
inherited, ink diluted
my stanzas singing songs of silent solitude
ribs will roar of love gained, upheld, lost
nerves relaxing after ducks return
fire I will ignite to warm my cockles
as faucets start gurgling, then chuckle
dust mites paddle
down rusty drain buckle
she can sing her own solos with another man
I’ll write my name with fingertips in sand
at the edge of mossy pond where bone dust
feed these earthworms squirming ~
as neighbourly goats curiously peer
affirming
unpack I my sparse belongings
journals filled with notes joyfully sour
takkies, rainboots, coffee, dried milk, beans
have to wash a couple of mugs clean
some cracked ceramic bowls
my goals to hold ——
to dust I returned before
my final ash burn
poetry already oozing purple sweat
red corpuscles dripping rhyme through
glands silhouette
I plug in a loyal vacuum who remembers
my dry palms
it splutters a welcome devouring
passage dust, a must
zebra longwing butterflies flutter as I water
an almond tree with two parallel
sentinel olive queens
nuts will I chomp as alone I will romp
to dust I returned ~
