“A parent's love will shield their pain
so that new happiness can reign.”
_by Poet
She found a dusty box of memories
up in her attic with some odds and ends
of what was saved amid the passing years;
inside- new photo with the truth it lends.
Confused- because she never put it there.
Forlorn since it now cancels what she knew;
a secret- closely hidden through the years
now throws her current memories askew.
Her parents with a child she never knew-
a baby girl held tight in loving arms.
How could this be, she was their only one.
Then other photos deepened her alarms.
Both parents passed away some years ago.
Unknown, her loving husband hid them there-
not wanting to disturb old memories-
of what she knew was real- to save with care.
This older sister passed away so young-
two years before their new child came to stay;
not a replacement, but their lifetime joy-
without dark shadows, sad times can betray.
With love for her, they hid this secret well;
a life for her unburdened they'd create.
Her shock at this new history will pass;
with love for her, they cleared the slate of fate.
