Dusted

It's been years since I went back home
Years since I celebrated Christmas with loved ones
Cause I was miles away in a new land
Making a way onto this new path I was on

I left home without looking back
I left everything, at least all that I had
To start fresh in a land so far from the reality I'd known
I was walking into a dream, or so it seemed

Cause all the things we cry for in our land
Are things that are working for others out there
Systems that we are yet to build in our land
Are systems that here have already worked

I came, made something of myself
I had to give up a lot to get here
I can't say I have any regrets
But I've sure missed out on family

It's been many years since I was home
Came back to the old graves of all my loved ones
Came to people who don't know me,
For many had already died

My house was seemingly still there
What was once a place for many
Now a shell of itself, lying in the dust
The very home rotting like its owners
