Dust In the Wind

The airborne dust from former tracks We left in our Life’s Road Which used to be the evidence That once we here had strode … Has all but been blown away By winds that Progress made Which ushered in fresh footprints Now in that dust displayed. And now … new dust clouds gather Suspended ‘fore the wind’ ‘til once again Progress decrees They too, shall soon be thinned. ‘tis then when our dust clouds, Created long ago, Shall only be a memory That only we will know.

Ah, Jack. I am not one to believe that our dust completely disappears. There are many circumstances that keep our memories alive. One line, one word, that gave someone hope and changed their life is something that can still live on a hundred generations from now and beyond. We are never forgotten whether consciously or not. It is a beautiful way for me to look at life and it certainly helps with decisions that I make. Your friend..... Robert.

Memories are finite, I think. Example: I’ve wondered what my 5-great grandfather was like. But … I don’t possess any memory him. I believe there can only be memories if there is “someone” to recall places, people and things from within first hand events. Once that “someone” is gone, so are the memories he/she possessed. Thereafter there can be history – but not memories.

Dear Jack, We cannot live forever and at some point all impressions we made in this world will be forgotten. I hope we can carry memories of our Earthly existence into the spiritual realm. Love the way your title connects to the song and your rhyme and meter are perfect. Your poem has insight and deep meaning for me. Excellent work! I'm enjoying getting to know you through poetry! Best wishes, Carolyn
