Duplex

An Honest Man

Christmas
Eve and
he is
rushing
home with
gifts for
his wife
in bad
traffic.

He texts
“Dying
to get
home.” Then
nothing.

His wife,
not far
away,
and some
minutes
later,
can hear
sirens.

He was
always
true to
his word.

As soon as the word texting I knew what was going to happen. Sad write but well penned.

Can see this as a TV infomercial ending with someone saying in a sombre serious voice "don't text and drive". Can picture the ambulance and the husband being taken away in a stretcher. Really good poem! Good luck in the contest! :-)
